Improve Your Indoor Air Quality

Spring is finally here, and summer is just around the corner. Unfortunately, here in the Charlotte area, that means the return of allergies. If it isn't the spring pollen, it's the summer humidity and mold.

Recently, several customers have contacted us for additional help improving the air quality in their homes. They have done everything right. They had their HVAC system cleaned and serviced and installed new quality air filters. However, they still couldn't find complete relief from their allergies inside.

Therefore, this month's article covers some add-ons to your existing HVAC system that can help improve the air quality in your home.

UV-C Lights

These UV systems have special light bulbs that emit short-wave ultraviolet light, killing harmful bacteria, viruses, mold, mildew, and even reducing odors. These germicidal light systems operate at a frequency that damages the DNA of microorganisms that come into contact with it. These systems can easily be installed in the ductwork or between the cooling coil and filter rack. That way, they keep the coil clean, preventing mold and bacteria from building up from the condensing water vapor.

Whole House Air Scrubbers

Air scrubbers are a type of filtration/purifying system that uses a series of processes to clean the air not only in the HVAC unit but in your home as well. Their titanium dioxide-coated honeycomb matrix and built-in UV light clean the air, neutralize any pathogens, and then release the cleaned air back into your living space.

Electronic Air Filters

An electronic air filter is another whole-home filtration option. This system uses a special reusable pre-filter to capture larger particles like dust and dander. The electrically charged primary filter traps smaller dust particles and contaminants like mold, bacteria, and viruses.
